Hello. You might look at the various Howtos which come with Slackware and Debian or on linuxdoc.org. You might also look in the kernel documentation. What I am getting to is that much of this type of information is in the /proc filesystem. You can get kernel version, list of PCI devices, etc. Also a lot can be found by looking at the messages at boot.
