<P><FONT SIZE=2>Regardless of the distribution, the setting of SAMBA is quite similar.</FONT>

<P><FONT SIZE=2>A few things to check in the interim:</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>q: Is SMB running?</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>a: enter "service smb restart" at the command prompt, when logged in as root. This will ensure that SAMBA is indeed started.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>Q: Is SAMBA configured to launch on boot?</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>a: In "setup" a command line utility, go to services, and make sure that smb and subsequent SAMBA entries have a "*" in front of them. The "*" indicates that they are to initialize at boot. You will also find "swap" in this list, and make sure that it too has a "*" in front of it.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>Q: Have you created a SAMBA user and password.</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>a: "smbpasswd -a <USER>" Please check the option because I am doing this from memory, and not 100% sure on the "-a" "man smbpasswd"</FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>q: Have you made the necessary changes to "smb.conf"?</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2>a: In the /etc/samba" directory, you will find a file "smb.conf". </FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2> 1. copy it to a second file, to preserve the original file, "cp smb.conf smb.conf.original"</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2> 2. Edit the "smb.conf" and make the necessary changes that you desire. This file has a number of good examples for you to use as help in setting up your SAMBA server.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2>Good luck, and hope this helps you get started.</FONT>
