Will socat Monitor my DecTalk Commands?

Well, since I have related issues, I am asking here instead of Blinux list. Last 
evening some1 in our LUG suggested I might run "socat" to monitor the DecTalk? I 
installed here in Debian, its a `quite long man-page, but I really have no idea 
of its uses. Can some1 please inform if this program will create a log of 
commands sent back-and-forth among Speakup-and-this U S B DecTalk? And yes an 
idea of writing a Chron-job to correct setting every 2minutes is a fine idea, 
however, even after settings automaticly are ruined, they showup correctly.
