espeakup and archlinux with gnome

Startx generally grabs the console you were previously using and prints
x-related output to it. You will probably need to switch to a different
console to make Speakup work again, i.e. press alt-control-f2 or
alt-control-f3 instead of the normal alt-control-f1. Hope this helps.
