hello:
I don't know about using ex--I assume it could be done well, but I'd 
like to recommend arch. It's got a really light footprint, which is 
really nice for a live cd. Chris Brannon also wrote a remaster tutorial 
or something of the sort up on his blog, that he also links to in a few 
other places.
