Command completion has been around for several decades.
If you're bored sometime, have a look at an operating system named
TOPS-20. It ran on DEC's PDP-10 computers in the late 70s and early
80s. TOPS-20's command-line interface is truely a dream to use. In
some ways, shells like bash still haven't caught up with the
capabilities that it provided.
It's still possible to run TOPS-20 in an emulator. That's the only
experience I've had with it. DEC cancelled the PDP-10 in 1983, when I
was four years old.
