Linux virtualization

Hi.
What good guides are out there for using qemu and doing a virtual machine?
I've used one guide, and Windows just stucks somewhere in the isntallation.
So I have to kill qemu.
When trying to boot the image, I just get the bios, and the mssage "booting 
from hard drive"
