building as external modules

On ubuntu, just install linux-headers-generic or whatever for your kernel
version and in the src directory of the git, just do:
make clean
make
make modules_install
That build directory is provided by the headers package, or would be
created if you build a kernel and install it from scratch.
Just installing the kernel-source package does not do the trick.
