installing arch

Hello list,
I decided to install arch on vmware, and it came up speaking--I love it.
My only problem is this:
When I'm supposedly navigating through a menu, speakup just reads "ok cancel." it doesn't actually read the options in the menu. using up and down arrow or tab doesn't work.
Any ideas?
