Well, I have 2 systems here, (1 physical, 1 virtual), running debian testing, which still
reports itself as 5.0, and I just upgraded both. While I understand
that Steve and Chuck seem to be running Squeeze, I'm reporting my
observations, since my upgrade dragged in espeak 1.40.02, so I'm
guessing that testing, and Squeeze are more or less identical at this
point.
Anyway, echo $UID, and echo $USER, both produce the expected results on
both systems.
