Well, you didn't say anything about running make by itself but I'll
assume that make modules_install will recompile if there's no objects
already available.  The only other thing I can suggest is I've noticed
on some machines the depmod for the particular kernel version you're
running doesn't build the modules.dep correctly.  Try running depmod
-a which should rebuild all dependancies and then try loading the
speakup modules you are using again.
