You have to configure Speech-dispatcher in order to make your favorite 
synth the default one.
Check out Speech-dispatcher's manual.
Note: There is also Festival installed on GRML, so if you prefer that, 
you can use it out of the box.
The other mentioned synths you have to buy first.

Don't know, I never used it. I think it is non-free and came only with Suse.
