slackware 12.2

Hi all:  I downloaded 12.2 of slackware and the dvd drive does boot it, 
but I don't know if the boot options for speakup have changed, because 
it doesn't seem to boot the speakup.s kernel.  I know it boots up 
something because I can echo text to the synth, on both ttyS0 and ttyS1.
Thanks much for any assistance...
