As I understand it, pilot exists for alpine and for debian users there's 
also fdclone and lfm for file managers as alternatives to mc.  If on 
debian get alpine-pilot to install pilot if not already on the machine. 
Inside of emacs, dired is also available with lynx emulating however well 
or poorly dired's look feel and functions.  I'm catching up on much old 
email so if this is old news for the list, that's why.
