I don't know if Ubuntu has a speakup enabled kernel or not but I know
Fedora and Debian surely have kernels available that work with speakup
and they both include gnome natively. Slackware has speakup kernel
but gnome does not come with it. So with that brief enalysis, I would
say that Debian or Fedora are your best bets. For Fedora, go to
http://www.speakupmodified.org
and for Debian, go to
http://www.debian.org and follow links to download and instrudctions;
they use a distributed method - something like bittorrent to
distribute images.
