I don't have problems with comcast but didn't do the setup in linux if that
is the problem. It is not usually necessary though to do much beyond
hooking up the modekm.

Subject: OT: comcast

Hi all.

I have a sighted friend I've been helping learn linux and get on the
Internet using dialup. For various reasons I won't explain here, I've
needed to try to make things as simple and straightforward for my friend
as possible; she's doing ok but getting rid of dialup would make things a
lot less complicated. she's in Colorado and I'm in Wisconsin and since
she doesn't have a cell phone I can't have her get online and then give me
her ip address so I can go on her computer. Because of this I thought that
if we change her service, cable might be better than dsl; at least here in
Wisconsin, getting linked up with charter is a lot more straightforward
than getting linked up with AT&T. The best scenario would be that all I
would have to do is guide her through editing her /etc/network/interfaces
and when the
technician connected her she'd be good to go. However, when I did some
googling about Comcast and linux, it appeared a lot of people had problems
getting Comcast to work for them so now I'm unsure whether or not to try
this for my friend. does anybody on this list use Comcast and if so can
you tell me how difficult it was to get it to work for you with linux; my
friend is just using text-based linux also, no gui. I know this is pretty
OT so feel free to reply directly to me.

Tia for any help.
