Can't build modules for Etch Help!

Hi,

Does this mean that I can't build Speakup without recompiling the 
kernel, even if I only want modules?  I haven't time to recompile the 
kernel even if I wanted to, which I don't so as to keep the server as 
stable as possible.  Should I try installing a new kernel from Lenny 
instead?  I have my 2.6.24 Speakup kernel that I built but the Speakup 
is older than the 20080724 snapshot and seemed not as stable to
