Using Virtual Box with speech

Has anyone successfully used Virtual Box with speech? I'm trying to find some solution other than VMWare that might emulate hardware a littel bit better in Linux. I'm having troubles recording with my mic in the guest OS, the recorded sound sounds sped up and compressed. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be very much appreciated, as this is the only major problem I'm having now.
