speech-dispatcher & oss?

I can't get alsa to work on my ancient laptop. That would be fine except 
that I've upgraded to debian lenny  and now software speech doesn't work. It 
appears that the flite module now depends on alsa.  So does the espeak 
module. Is there an oss module available?
