Speakup Patch confusion

Hi,
I was able to
 upgrade recently to 2.6.22 using the
 sources in the Git repository.  All that being said, I tried
 to upgrade to 2.6.23 with those sources as well, upon hearing that speakupmodified.org had a patch.  I updated the Git repository, but the patches there didn't apply.
I'm interested
 in what Speakupmodified
.org did?  Is this patch I downloaded from them distribution-independent
?  What does it have that the Git
 repo doesn't?  Vice versa?
