Further Ubuntu info

Hi,
    After sending out my last message, I noticed tgat tgere weren't any IDE or SCSI hard drives in /dev from the live CD.  I saw my two CDrom drives, but nothing like sda1 or hda1.  
    This might have something to do with my installation trouble, but if so I don't know what module to load for these things.
    According to Windows, my disk is a Maxtor 6l200M0.
