couple linux(deb) questions

I'm using SecureCRT, and all ncurses-based progs die.
BTW, I've got one final quetsion.
I was playing with uptime, and wanted to see if I could change it. I found
where you write uptime to, /proc/uptime, but I can't change it, any ideas?
