moving from amd to p3?

Hello list,
I've got an AMD system, that I would like to do my install with.
When I try to move the harddrive to my penteum 3 system, things sorta... crash.
Is there a way to do this?
I'm trying to install debian, and my p3 system doesn't have a working CD drive.
