amd gentoo install failure

When the 2006.1 livecd is about to start loading packages onto my system I 
get a bad disk sector error and that ends the installation.  So far, I've 
verified the download media with the DIGESTS file using both md5sum and 
sha1sum and I expect I'll download the public key and verify it with the 
ASC file too.  It makes no difference apparently what kind of install is 
tried too.  I've had this happen with both networkless and internet 
enabled installs and even with a stage 3 install too.  Maybe I need to 
turn --overburn on to et this working for now I'm not sure.
