Podracer has been said to work on the Mac, but Bash is currently
required to get it to run properly. I have also heard that there is
only a very simple modification that is required to make it run with the
standard /bin/sh instead of requiring Bash.

vim /usr/bin/podracer

and

:%s/source/.

should do it for the current 1.4 version as I understand it.

As for importing your subscriptions from iTunes, this is currently not
possible, because Podracer can't currently import from other clients.
If you are able to access your subscription URL's, you should be able to
copy and paste them into the Podracer subscription file without any
problems.

As for downloading previous episodes of your podcasts, Podracer will by
default download every episode contained in the feeds. This is why
catchup mode is recommended for first-time use. If you run in catchup
mode and still want a previous episode, the best way to get it is to
delete its URL from the log. Podracer will then download it on the next
run, even if it isn't the most recent episode in the feed.

HTH,
Lorenzo
