considering gentoo over debian

Hi, I disagree, mutch of the hand book does not really tell you everything.
In menuselect you have to press the space bar to select a mirror and none of
them are numberd. Also the installer in the live CD is totally broken. The
boot option unionfs does not work in the live CD and when emerge tells me
one configuration file in /etc/ needs updating and I go into that directory
the configuration file is an init script for nscd. I see no changes that
need to be made. Someone needs to update the handbook with updated
directions. following the chrooting directions did not make sence as it
says >regenerateing /etc/ld.so.cache but if I were to type that empty files
would be created. I really think someone should look into updating the live
CD to fix the text based installer and updating the handbook. Tools for
making a grub.conf file out of your existing kernels and initrds would also
be a nice thing. If I use genkernel and a newer version of the
gentoo-sources is there that is different or has newer configuration options
then the installation kernel will I be prompted for these options or how
will it handle it? Is there a way of just copying the installation CD
kernel over and using that as my kernel?
