Hi,
	When I got it to boot on the 17xx.  I followed the steps outlined in
the earlier message.  Presto wammo and I had voice.  The poster was right on
the mark.

has anyone any idea if I need to specify any sound parameters when I attempt
to start ubuntu?
I hear no startup sound when I allow the default to start.
both machines are running creative cards.
one runs an sb_Live! emu10k1 and the other runs an audigy1 also emu10k1 from
memory.
