it didn't appear to detect the new sound card or the network card,  and the 
serial card, I am asuming that nothing else was detected either.  Is there a 
way to see the processor speed and ram?  Also is there a wway to force it to 
detect the hardware?

Yes, it should detect it.  Your bootup will take longer.
If it does not detect everything, you can confugure the remaining ones
once booted up.
I have done this a lot.
