missing the continuous read function

Hi Chuck:  The continuous reading function doesn't work in all
synths.  I also believe that Mike hasn't fixed it up since I made some
changes which were supposed to make it easier for him to implement.  I
haven't heard much out of him since CSUN so I don't actually know what
the status of that is.
