Any Asterisk user in here?

Hello Steve,
Yes, the config files were a little overwelmed to me as well when I first begun to use Asterisk. The samples files were to me a geat help also:
http://www.voip-info.org
is a very good resource. Even though the site can be a little hard to navigate in the beginning and find the information you are looking for.
I have not bought any cards for the Asterisk system as of yet, but planning to do so to connect my analog telephone to it.
I am using a Cisco 7960 as well as a Cisco ATA 186 adapter.
If you have more than one person at home and want to be able to make more than just one call at the moment Asterisk is very useful. If you have a Voip provider that connects you to the PSTN (telephone network) you can make more than just one outgoing call at the same time.
Also, you can have friends/family members who registers to your Asterisk server from other countries or areas. And you can register to your Asterisk server form another location and make outgoing calls and answer calls just if you were at home.
The possibilities are endless!
You can use a software based IP phone to start with.
All the best,
Christian
