Hello Eric,
Yes, Asterisk is so fantastic when you discover its possibilities. First when a friend of mine told me about Asterisk well, then I didn't think much about it. But downloaded, installed it, configured it and after some time of playing around with it I discovered that I could with the help of my Voip Provider who offers connectivity to the regular phone network receive more than just one call! I even configured Meetme ( the conferencing system) and had aobout 8 friends calling it at the same itme. Have you used IAX?
I even managed to create a macro with a talking caller ID facility. When I picked up the phone Asterisk read the incoming callers number and I could accept or reject the call with a just pressing a button.
All the best,
Christian
