looking for a package?

for pdf files there's xpdf's pdftotext.  just install xpdf and you 
should get it.  my only complaint is it pretty much murders any 
formatting in the pdf file.  I've found myself liking the feature in 
acrobat reader under windows to get better formatted text output.
