Minicom and Dectalk Express

Hi all. I am trying to test a few things. As a result, I need to try and 
connect to the Dectalk with Minicom. However, for some reason Minicom is 
not able to establish a handshake with the Dectalk. As a result, the 
status at the bottom of the terminal says 'offline'. I've enable 
hardware flow control, and the port settings are 9600 8N1. The port 
itself is also set to ttyS0, which is the correct port. Is there 
anything else I should be checking that would perhaps inhibit the 
ability to establish a propper connection? Thanks!
