Oh, also it sounds like the firewall problem maybe on your friends
side.  You should probably get the sample reflector script in the
goodies directory and edit it for your details and try communicating
with the folks on the speakup reflector.  That will give you
experience setting up and communicating which will go a long way
toward getting your connection working between you and your friend.
