A Linux Laptop including speech?

I must have surgery and will not be able to sit up or raise my head for
several weeks. The idea is to create a very basic system so I can still
do some work related tasks, use wordperfect, go online and tellnet to my
shell account, etc.
Thought I might seek a tad more since I must have something, but that is
the basic goal here.
