can't get espeak working with speech dispatcher and speechd-up

That looks good. Can you put your espeak-generic.conf file up there as
well? It has to be something simple, or there'd be more errors. :) Try
doing:
speak -w test.wav "some text";aplay test.wav
to see if it actually plays.
