changing voice in speakup

so am i correct to asume that the voices and or tones i speak of are just
predefined pitch and freq rates or by the settings i remember like in jaws
for example, and in the m40 with the internal dbtk chip the voices were such
as perfect paul and so on? would i have to define these in the specified
path below??
