Greg,

Check the bsd games package for rot13. You might even just do "man 
rot13". In short, assign a number to the letters of the alphabet, a=1, 
b=2, c=3, etc. Then rotate the letters by 13 positions with wrap around. 
Repeating the operation restores the original. Non alphabetic chars are 
left in place. It works on binary files too. It is the same idea as the 
"Little Orphan Annie Secret Decoder Rings" from the early days of radio. 
You could send away for one with a label from an Ovaltine can, or a 
"reasonable facsimile."
