directing mplayer's output to stdout

Hi all.

I've been reading mplayer's documentation, and can't find what I'm
looking for, so I hope that someone here may know the answer. Yes,
yes, I know there are mplayer-specific lists. 

What I want to do is play a video file, passing the audio through the
null module, and passing the video to stdout, to be used by another
program in a pipe.

Invoking mplayer with the vertical bar is in "mplayer ... | program2
..." doesn't work, and using the grater than symbol doesn't work
either as in
"mplayer ... -vo yuv4mpeg:file=> ... "
