You make some interesting points here.  I think a correction for audio
CDs would be in order though.  You should put a '-audio' in front of
the *.wav; otherwise, you would end up with a data CD with wav files
on it.  I always specify -data or -audio depending on my uses of
cdrecord.

If you are working with audio CDs, cdrdao is another program which is
better suited if you want to make exact copies of audio CDs.

If you get into extracting CDs, may I suggest abcde, a powerful shell
script which will integrate cdparanoia, oggenc or lame for encoding
and appropriate taggers so I can sit down and pop in an audio CD, type
in 'abcde' and a while later, I have a directory of oggs or mp3s
(depending on choices that are properly named and tagged.  It really
rocks!
