error message, keyboard not working as a result

I have never experienced any of these losses of keyboard control with
a 2.6 kernel. I'm using a Speakout on my serial port and it is
compiled in statically so I get speech immediately after booting and I
can always stop it by hitting the numpad enter key like always.
