Ah yes, now that "run level" stuff is coming back to me from what I read in 
a linux book about a week ago. Indeed, I even now remember changing one 
digit in the inittab file from "5" to "3" so that my machine wouldn't boot 
up in "gui" mode. (Of course, given how often I've rebooted, or had to 
reboot, come to find out I really didn't need to "sweat" that one over 
much.)
