big problem with FC2 audio

Hello all:
I've had my FC2 installation since it first came out a few months ago. Since then, I've also had a problem that I never
fixed:
The problem is that when I use "rec" to record sound from my sound card nothing comes out. Actually, it makes a wave
file, but it is completely silent. I have tried turning my volume up all of the way using aumix -w, -v, -r, -m, and
still nothing. My mic does work though. If I turn up the mic volume all the way up, I can hear my self talk through my
speakers when I talk into the mic. I don't understand!
I have a SB Live! sound card, using the alsa 10k driver that comes with the kernel.

Just to try it, I recompiled my kernel with OSS support instead of alsa and the sound recording works just fine. So, I
know I don't have any hardware problems...

Also, when I am playing audio, the -t and -b (EQ) switches for aumix do not do anything. I can type, aumix -b 0 (or
whatever) and the bass stays the same. I know this can work, because my Mandrake 10 box works the SB Live! without a
problem. I can also record with the Mandrake machine just fine. Please help!

My FC2 laptop also has problems recording from the sound card. It is not silent though. Instead, it makes a very
distorded sound. I don't get it! Oh, my laptop has a totally different sound card than my other machine.

If anyone is able to record/change-the-eq-settings, please tell me how!

Thanks to everyone in advance.
