Hi there. I just tried that, and I still get the same behavior. Its like Gnome isn't starting properly or something. The reason I say that is bc the only process that runs is gnome-session. I 
checked that against a working setup, and I saw something like gnome-keyring-daemon, gnome-vfs or something, and also gnome-panel. I wonder if it might have to do with an "unknown host" error 
when I run startx? root at igueths:~# startx

Does anyone know how to fix the hostname msg? I also get that msg on my laptop/server (and as a result, I'm going to assume that Gnome won't start properly?
