(Ot) a couple of fedora kernel questions

I'm still trying to work my way through the new info on Fedora and wonder
if somebody can answer a couple of quick questions for me.
am I stuck with grub or can I install lilo? Is there some reason why I
should leave grub in charge if I can get lilo?
also, can I just change my kernel in /boot using a kernel from kernel.org
or one of its mirrors or is there some reason why I need to use the rpms?
are there any extra steps I have to take in changing kernels with fedora
that would be different from what I did in debian--the standard kernel
make config, make clean, make, make modules_install, copying the
system.map and bzImage to /boot and running lilo or grub as the case may
be? Now that I think of it, I'm wondering if I have to do symlinks
for my boot images; don't know if that's a lilo/grub issue or a
debian/fedora issue. anyway, I realize I'm going to have to do a lot of
reading to get squared away with the new system, but if somebody has time
to give
me a very quick summary so I can at least recompile the kernel I'd really
appreciate it. Otherwise I'll just wait until I have time to do enough
reading to get everything figured
out.
Thanks.
