I don't think there was ever a speakup 1.10. I know that 1.5 had some
cursor tracking issues though. You may want to upgrade to the cvs
version, but I don't know if there is a kernel with it for slackware, so
you may have to built your own.

I like vim, which is vi improved. I wouldn't say though that it is easy
to use, at least not at first. It is certainly powerful though.

As just another suggestion you might try nano. It is basically pico with
more features and released under the GPL. You can find it at
www.nano-editor.org if I remember corectly.
