Hi speakup,

I'm about to take the plunge now and try to compile a kernel, partly
to learn and mainly because i need mouse support which i don't have
  at the moment.
  I will go from linux-2.4.25 to linux-2.6.2.
I'm using Debian Sarge and am wondering if one should take the
really easy way out and go for the distribution package or try
building it myself from scratch. What advantages could there be with
a distro specific kernel source package? Is there anything in
particular one should think about if compiling from a source fetched
  from kernel.org?
I have read the Readme for the 2.6.2 kernel and also the kernel
compilation howto, so i think i know what i'm doing even though i
don't understand everything. Now, i just want to hear peoples
(especially debian users) opinions on this.
  Thanks in advance!
