What kernel version are you using and do you run ALSA or OSS sound?

I ask this because one of my machines loads beautifully every time and
that laptop has OSS drivers and kernel version 2.4.26. My original
machine with the problem runs 2.4.25. I can't imagine ALSA vs OSS
having any relivance here because speech-dispatcher and flite work
fine in all cases.
