route command question

Hi all. I have noticed that in my route command output, I have 2 items: 
192.168.1.0     *               255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 
eth0
default         192.168.1.1     0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 
eth0

Why is the first one present? I know the second one is the default route 
to my current gateway. Does anyone know why I have 192.168.1.0 listed as 
a destination? Thanks!
