Hi, Roy.
The problem you described is very strange indeed.  Typically, your sound
modules get loaded about the same time all the other modules such as network
cards, scanners, etc get loaded.
I don't know what the problem is exactly why you are not getting sound on
startup. Which set of sound drivers are you using? Are you using alsa or oss
drivers?
